One of the major benefits of the membership of any club or society is the opportunity
to meet like minded people and develop our shared interest by discussing plans and
models, and exhibiting the results. In our club, we welcome new members of any skill
level or Meccano holding: all we look for is the willingness to join in and enjoy
yourselves. Remember that there are only 3 limitations to what can be achieved with
Meccano. These are Time, Meccano component availability and Imagination....oh to
have all three in abundance.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death on Friday 5th August of our Founder
and President, Malcolm Hanson, following a long struggle with cancer. Malcolm made
a huge contribution to the Meccano hobby: he was a collector, a builder and an educator,
spreading his vast knowledge of our hobby far and wide. He was also a collector of
other building systems and his knowledge was sought by all. He will be greatly missed
by a very wide circle of Meccano friends throughout the world. Malcolm leaves a wife
Veronica, 3 children and 3 grandchildren to whom we extend our deepest sympathies.
The South West Meccano Club is a club for Meccano enthusiasts in the South West of
England and South Wales. We meet four times each year in the Bristol area with a
new branch starting in Paignton. Our Meccano interests include history, model building,
collecting and renovation. We support our hobby with shows and displays both in the
local area and throughout the UK.
Whilst we are principally a Meccano club, many of our members have interests and
expertise in other modelling and building systems.
