Report by Malcolm Hanson
Our autumn meeting was held on the 6th October at Richard Smith’s house.
Richard had acquired an amazing collection of outfits and parts through a lead from a neighbour and was pleased to show us some of it, including an Edwardian No.6 outfit and a used 1961 6a outfit. This was just scratching the surface of the find, doubtless more will follow!
He also had some nice simple models that came out of a session he had run for the local scout group and which were all built by the scouts.
David Northcott showed us a 1907 Italia racing car with working crash gear-box and a fire engine from a nickel period manual.
John Day is still working on his forklift truck and showed us the progress he had made in the fork mechanism.
New member Chris Bates also had a work in progress in the form of an Austin 7 chassis on a revolving mount for display purposes.
Neil Bedford had been given a modern truck kit and had put it together, however, being Neil it had several improvements built in.
For once Ralph Clark did not have a new locomotive motive model to beguile us with but did have a folder full of pictures of his previous efforts and an automatic reversing mechanism that had taken his fancy in an old Meccano Magazine.
Terry Childs showed us a fascinating rope making model that twined three strands of cord into the finished “rope”.
